Fuel Poverty Awareness Day and The Nation's Biggest Housewarming

Fuel Poverty Awareness Day and The Nation's Biggest Housewarming

Fuel Poverty Awareness Day is the national day for action to raise awareness of the heating and insulation problems faced by low-income households.

The initiative is coordinated by fuel poverty charity National Energy Action, and falls at the end of our winter Warm Homes Campaign. We will use the day to highlight to government some of our key asks of the forthcoming election, but we are keen for members and other sympathetic organisations and individuals to support the day any way they can and help demonstrate the strength of feeling on this issue as well as the excellent work being undertaken to tackle fuel poverty across the country. This could include:

  • Drafting a message of support or referencing the day in any of your communications activities
  • Using the opportunity to promote any work you are doing to tackle fuel poverty, either via local press and public engagement activity or through Twitter (#fuelpovertyawarenessday)
  • Generally supporting the day via Twitter

To help with this you can »download template press notices which you may adapt if you wish, as well as a copy of the »Fuel Poverty Awareness Day logo for you to include on any materials.

More general information on our winter campaigning activities »can be found here. We also have a range of general resources available which includes our updated »Fuel Poverty Action Guide, and »Getting the message right and spreading the word – a communications toolkit.

Also on Friday 27 February NEA is running The Nation’s Biggest Housewarming, a fundraising initiative where supporters are encouraged to hold their own ‘housewarming’ events to fundraise on behalf of NEA.

What is your ideal housewarming? Does it involve friends, cake and a hot cup of tea? Ours does, so please join us in organising a housewarming event on Friday 27 February. Bake or buy cakes, doughnuts, pakoras, pies and scones to sell to your family, friends or colleagues and then donate the money you’ve raised to NEA!

Join in with the Nation’s Biggest Housewarming to raise much needed funds to enable NEA to deliver fuel poverty projects and to campaign to ensure that all households are able to live in homes which are warmer, healthier and affordable to heat.
