I am the Founder and Managing Director of a North Wales based environmental and social enterprise called reSource Denbighshire CIC (reSource). Registering as a Community Interest Company in June 2020 we have quickly established, filling a local need for positive sustainable activities that are inclusive of all.
We aim to inspire and raise aspirations as well as having a positive environmental impact through community gardening, repairing items for reuse, keeping items out of landfill- imagine a cold frame made out of a disused shower screen! We also offer small community crafting and repair skills sharing. Our community plastics workshop involves creating and educating about the properties of plastics and the need to keep reusable items out of waste streams.
The inspiration for the creation of reSource comes from my previous work as a disability Social Worker and Post 16 teacher and the enthusiasm and encouragement from local climate action groups. Being a mum of 3 children with additional needs shaped the vision and need for climate action activities that are inclusive, flexible and adaptable for all.
I welcome the opportunity to work with Renew to support local groups in defining their climate action plans in ways that is meaningful and inspiring.
Why are you drawn to this area of work?
I am drawn to this work to support other groups in bridging the gap between personal, group actions and the language and rhetoric around climate activity. To support understandings around ‘What is climate action’, ‘What is the Circular Economy?’ what ‘How can I/we make a difference?’ ‘What actions can I take?’ ‘Why should I take these actions?’.
I am interested in the doing, modelling actions, supporting the creating of solutions and bridging the gap between the ‘saying and the doing’. Engaging and inspiring others to create solutions and actions that are meaningful to them.
Within climate action I am interested in the ‘doing’ and ‘making it real’, being mindful that we learn and develop understandings in different ways, but we can all take climate action, or whatever alternative phrases/words that mean something to us.
What is your vision of your region in 2050?
Climate Action won’t need to be a conscious thing that we do because it will be an integrated part of everyday life. Individual choices, infrastructure and how we live will be how we go about our daily lives.
Infrastructure and systems will be in place that support this way of living. Individuals will not be excluded or disadvantaged as we share understandings of living within a system that thrives on flexible ways of living and being, valuing our own and others resourcefulness and share, repair and reuse of our resources.
